Bess, You Is My Woman Now
I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’
It Ain’t Necessarily So
The opening of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019–20 season will be a historic occasion as the company presents the first performances of the Gershwins’ classic American opera, Porgy and Bess, in nearly 30 years. Prior to the new production premiere at the Met, audiences at the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center will travel back to 1930s Catfish Row, in Charleston, South Carolina, when Met General Manager Peter Gelb and members of the cast discuss this seminal work, along with performances of some of George Gershwin’s most memorable tunes from the opera’s captivating blues-, jazz- and spirituals-inspired score.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to explore one of the richest, most beloved operas in the repertory with the esteemed artists who will be bringing it to vivid life on the Met stage.
